Dinnington Neighbourhood Plan
Dinnington St John’s is a historic and vibrant parish with a strong sense of community spirit and identity. It is expected to experience significant housing and other forms of development in the coming years, particularly if the plans outlined by Rotherham Borough Council come to fruition. The local community is eager to influence and guide the nature and scope of these developments to ensure they meet the needs and aspirations of the people who live here.
The Council is firm in its belief that decisions regarding the future development of Dinnington are best made at the local level, by those who have a genuine understanding of the area and its requirements. This initiative stems, in part, from a growing sense of frustration within the community, due to a perceived lack of progress and responsiveness to local needs in recent years. Dinnington was once a thriving and prosperous area, but following the decline of coal mining and other traditional industries, it has faced a legacy of deep-rooted social, economic, and environmental challenges.
Thanks to the Localism Act, the Council now has the opportunity to formally express its wishes through a legally recognised Neighbourhood Plan. This plan will play a crucial role in shaping future planning decisions and must be taken into account when determining where and how development will occur in our community.
